Theres a wee pigeon wandering about the yard well following me about. very odd place for a pigeon to be! how do i know if its lost? Its got two green bands on its feet?

It might be a homing pigeon. I once found one at the stable yard, I caught it and took it home. I can't remember how (as this was about 15 years ago), but we did find out who it belonged to and a courier was sent to collect it and take it home.

Actually just Googled it, here is a site for reporting them, though you would need to catch it first... http://www.homingpigeons.co.uk/straypigeons.htm

no help i am afraid but I just love pigeons!!! Theres always one that follows me home from town!!!

:p

I wouldn't bother reporting it. Pigeon keepers will see it as a rubbish bird since it hasn't gone home. Most would cull it. I'd just get some pigeon corn from your local pet shop/feed merchant and feed it up for a bit. It will move in when it's strong enough. Either that or you've got yourself a new pet!:D

It's probably a racer. I reported one like this once, owner was actually very pleased and sent a courier for it.

When the courier arrived however, the bird had snuffed it in the night. Red faces all round.

I found a racer a few years ago, very tired and hungry, fed it up whilst locating te owner.

He was very pleased we had found it and came from carlisle to collect it.

I am in Lincolnshire so icant imagine he would travel all that way, just to cull it

I found one years ago and fed and watered it and contacted the owner via the racing pigeon society and was advised to let it rest for a few days then let it go.

My dad races pigeons, if it has green bands on it sounds like it belongs to someone. Does one of the bands have a number on it? If so contact the link already given and if you give the number they should be able to trace the owner.

Eta not all pigeons are culled it depends very much on the owner
