Pigeon toe

Just been to see a lovely horse that is for sale. It has a pigeon toe, would this put you off buying it if it was perfect in every other way?

Perhaps if the horse were absolutely perfect in every other way then i would, as suggested it depends on what you want to do with the said horse

How turned in is it? if it is only slight then it wouldn't put me off, many horses have one slight turned in toe, welsh cobs are renowned for it so I am told.

I don't think it would out me off unless very severe. I've always been told that pigeon toes are rarely a cause of unsoundness and in fact Antifaz is pigeon-toed and possibly the soundest horse I've known!

i have pigeon toe horse never put me off but mines for hacking and pleasure rides

Hi mine is slightly pigeon toed as well(and for sale) he has competed sj up to 1.30m! And hunted every week! Never bothered him or us! As he is a gent in every other way!

it would depend how bad it was and what i wanted the horse for,,, that said i bel supreme rock /is pigeon toed!!!!

Only if slight. Turned in better than turned out. Excessive twist can lead to tendon strains and pressure on the joint (friend's horse has just retired due to lameness caused by his 'pigeon toeness' altho his toes are VERY turned in).

Have him trotted out and check that he lands equally, ie weight bears equally on each stride.

I looked at a beautiful warmblood at the end of last year, but his toes were very turned in. Vet advised not to go near unless very slight, farrier the same. But if you really like him, get your vet/farrier to have a look and give you a professional opinion.
