My horse is pigeon toed on his front left foot and his cannon bone is slightly curved but his other cannon bone is perfectly straight. Is this a major problem?
It will probably cause more wear and tear on his tendons and ligaments.Your blacksmith should be able to make him more comfortable but I wouldn't allow him to do anything drastic re correctional trimming etc.
Sounds like your boy's could have a bench knee (also called an 'offset knee') on one side. My filly is the same but on both sides unfortunately.
Here's mine
The weight distribution through the affected limb/s is altered because of the alignment of the canon bone to the knee, so the horse is generally prone to splints forming and more than likely to develop arthritis in the limb through wear and tear. A pretty dismal long-term prognosis but correct shoeing can help and I avoid jumping or anything likely to put undue strain on mine's front limbs. I'm also using a profilactic joint supplement in the hope that it'll postpone any early arthritic changes.
