Just wondered if anyone had a horse with this condition..?

Am going to look at a 15 year old mare and the seller has told me she is pigeon toed... just wanted advice please?

Thanks..

it depends on how pigeon toed it is. Slightly then not a problem - but I had a serious accident on a seriously pigeon toed mare that plaited!!! She actually stood on her own front foot in trot and somersaulted with me on a road gor up and then walked over my groin hospitalising me. So while I have no huge problem with a slightly turned in toe - a farrier can make a lot of improvments in many cases - I have a huge problem with large turned in feet.

I had a pigeon toed mare who was fantastic in every way. I got her when she was 7 but by the time she was about 17 she had started to get arthritis in her knees which the vet said was due to her conformation and she was retired not long after. I would be very wary of getting a 15 year old that was pigeon toed.

Dont touch it with a barge pole horses can invent enough problems of their own without buying one with existing ones

I disagree with you, I had one that was very pigeon toed, passed a 5 stage vetting and never had a lame day.
If this horse is 15 and still sound that must say something.
If we all generalised about horses we wouldn't buy anything, it all depends on the severity and also what you want the horse to do.

Well went up to see her and she was a lovely mare - pretty much pigeon toed at the front but no shoes on - she was sound although a bit clicky on the rear... previously used as a broodmare and it showed.... she had a hard swelling on the offside rear which was hard and positioned just under the fetlock.... her near side front leg knee had poss some fluid on it but other than that she was a safe ride, a very nice mare.... she was up for £1,200 and I made her an offer which I thought was fair..... she didnt accept my offer - never mind...
