I thought I would ask you lovely folks in here as I can't be the only one who needs to strengthen their core muscles.

Am looking for something for beginners to start with and easy to follow.

Any thoughts anyone.

I've used the Pilates Institute DVDs - they are a good basic start with easy to understand instructions - and no celebrities.... Having said that I also like the Darcy Bussell DVD but I'm not sure whether it is good for complete beginners as I think it misses out some of the basics. To be honest I think it is difficult to learn Pilates properly on your own if you haven't had any face to face training. Even a couple of sessions may be worthwhile - the difference between positioning your body correctly and wrongly are tiny. Where the DVDs come into their own is once you know what you should be doing and then building up your own routine.

There is beginners pilates on freeview channel 282! It is on during the day but I catch the 10pm one (an hour long). Very good and relaxing.

I'd reiterate what MollysMum says - get a few lessons first as doing it wrong will do more harm than good. It's a bit like dressage when having someone on the ground, to make even minute adjustments, can make all the difference. See what's on locally - there are a couple of teachers round me and they have classes in village halls of an evening.

Pilates for Dressage Riders is good, and the Pilates one from the 10 min workout series, but echo the comment about having some lessons first...neither DVD has much of a warm up in it, and a beginner trying out the exercises in the latter would have a good chance of hurting themselves!
The Dressage one is interesting because it goes thru each exercise and its easier modificaton in detal before going into a full workout and also shows (using a real horse and rider!) how to put what you have learned into practice in the saddle. Not cheap tho - mine was £25 from Amazon.

Equestrian Pilates with Gemma Tattersall. Real rider case studies. I intend to use this with some local classes. I'm very lucky because the pilates instructor in Gemma's DVD works locally
