Friends new horse had pin worm wormed with strongid last week, how long before its safe to do a double dose? Wants to double dose to make sure all pin worm is gone and also tape worm x

I have been researching pinworm as a friend's horse has it too. It seems that 3 lots of Strongid P, ten days apart, is a very good treatment. There is also Panacur 5 day guard.

Pramox does not reach the hind gut effectively enough to kill the worms.

You also need to remove all the bedding, and scrub down the walls and floor of the stable (jeyes fluid is good). The bedding in this case has been replaced with shavings, as if a horse eats straw, it is likely to reinfect with the eggs.

I hope that helps. Can you tell I've been swatting up - just wanted to make sure my horse is safe - he is as long as he's not grazed with this horse, and eats near his poo. :)

We had a pinworm problem in three horses on our yard last year. Vets and IW say they are seeing more of it. It can be transferred on anything as the eggs are extremely sticky so brushes, your hands, rugs anything really. I was told the eggs are not very hardy so outside should die off relatively quickly but under the tail should be cleaned as often as possible. Apparently the worm comes out at night to lay the sticky sack so early in the morning is really important. Anything they rub on should be cleaned at least once daily.
Its a bit of a pain to get rid of but hygeine is the key.

I was recommended the 5 Day Guard as the best one to clear it.
