One of my modules this year is regarding contemporary issues, and our subject for the next discussion is the use and/or abuse of boots and bandages. I'll be putting up a couple of posts both in TR and C&T to try to get an idea of public opinion as we're struggling to find relelvant and up to date research.

So, what are your opinions on pinch boots and/or weighted boots? Do you use them? Have you used them in the past?

I hadn't heard of this before. Just googled. How awful, why do people think it's ok to cause pain? Agree with Cortez.

Thanks for the replies! Those were our thoughts, weighted boots I can understand more than pinch, but we haven't been able to find any research on either carried out in the last four years, most likely due to the ethics.

Amazing the number of people who use them at lower levels even though they have no function unless you are jumping 3'6"+ according to friend who worked many years for top sj's. Lots of people use them unfortunately as still allowed in many classes BS/BE and FEI as long as you don't go over the weight limit. Personally I abhor them.

Weighted boots have a role in rehab; read anything by Clayton. First one that came up on a quick search was http://avmajournals.avma.org/doi/abs/10.2460/ajvr.72.11.1489?journalCode=ajvr That was Nov 2011

Also, just a polite tip - you shouldn't really make your own views on a subject clear if you wish to solicit the views of others without colouring/influencing the feedback or inhibiting people from responding. I know you are not conducting statistically valid research, but even so.....:)
