Anyone up to much?
I am taking my large orange beast on his maiden voyage in the lorry. At 3yrs old and 17hh, I'm sure it won't be stress free!
However we're only going 20mins down the road to my friend's yard to pootle around her arena and then coming home.

Apart from that, lots of gardening and house tidying.
It really is boring when you don't have a horse to compete and make plans with!!

Have fun all x

I did a last minute Cholsey escorted ride. Wasn't sure whether after our group fun ride the other weekend his brain would fall out or if the whole "riding in company is just routine" thing had hit home.

Thankfully the latter. Hoof perfect. Ground was amazing after the rain and lots of really good canters. He's exhausted!! I've just seen one of the videos of me cantering up a hill and I definitely need to improve my Instagram face 🤣🤣

Finally he's growing up - phew 😅

We've got a working equitation training competition on Sunday - it's our first competitive outing in a few months so expectations are low! I haven't practiced any of the obstacles since our WE camp in early April so I'd better have a play with those today, then a hack tomorrow.

I had another good lesson today. Test riding practice for e-riders this month. I'm hoping to do two tests - BD Intro B which I already know from doing last year. We rode through this today and it went fairly well. Our correct bend is not 100% consistent but sooo much better. For some reason there's one corner of the school that's always worse than the others, two at the other end we seem to have cracked, and the other which can go either way! Also looking at e-riders Intro 1f which is pretty much literally all circles and half circles so feels quite different.

I got to spend a couple of hours at the RS afterwards. Cleaned up 'my' horse's tack and gave him a brush and some fuss. It was so lovely! I really miss my horsey time outside of the riding so really appreciated it. :)

No outings this weekend, was out last weekend and are again next weekend. This morning had another fab ride up on the downs, ground was nice for a good blast after the rain we had on Tuesday! Then going to pop a few jumps tomorrow at home before heading out for a late lunch for my sister's birthday.

Beach Ride!!

I am at the end of my 6 week rehab stint (3 weeks in-hand/lunge in canter and over poles, 3 weeks ridden, lots of canter - but no jumping-) with the vet wanting Lottie back in normal work now pending a review next week.

So I had the green light to head to the beach for some fun. Lottie has never ridden on a beach before and was a bit cautious of sand and puddles at first. Plus waves 'chasing' her freaked her out initially. But she was good as gold and soon relaxed and began splashing around. Went in the sea, cantered in the shallow surf, parallel to the beach and a few faster blasts. She loved it. So did I! And yes that is Lottie miles in front on that 3rd pic. I started behind too. She was having a good leg stretch! She's the one at the front in all the pics if anyone wants to pick her out.

Now keeping everything crossed that we are cleared to resume full work, including competing when vet reviews her on Tuesday. She feels MEGA so I am optimistic. Rehab has been very active so she's not lost fitness. Just hope she is now loose and comfortable in all the places she was tight and sore.

Heading out to our local venue to get our final AF sheet later on. AM91 again and only two of us in the class so at least we won’t have long to wait for scores.

Also rode two this morning. Jack is on week 15 of rehab and started canter this week - finally on the home stretch 🥳

Thanks to the lovely @teapot letting me know about the Major General’s Review going on today, I spent my morning pony-oggling, and playing at being an equine photographer. Emphasis on ‘playing at’ because the few decent photos I got were solely thanks to my long-suffering camera ignoring me.

Otherwise, nothing exciting going on with my boy; he’ll just be going for his usual walk tomorrow. Hoping that his new exercise wraps will arrive in time, so I can try my hand at TTouch wrapping on him, but I doubt it.

Final sheet achieved ✅
2nd/2 which wasn’t a surprise as was competing against Charlie Hutton but at least our score is starting to head in the right direction again ⬆️

Came home to a text from my local CPL branch saying they’ve got a pair of semi-feral kittens in and would I be interested in taking them (big fat yes 😬) so this time next week I’ll be welcoming these two adorable little fluff-balls

Running with the Tennessee theme, I’ve decided to call them Milan (black and white, boy) and Paris (black, girl). I already have a Nashville (horse) and a Memphis (dog).

Well, my overfaced, rushed 4 yo came 3rd in her first ever dressage test with 71%. Good baby!

It’s a great shame but I am not going to post on these threads any more because people then rush over to my other threads to say, ohhh, you’re doing a walk-trot test, you’re really rushing, you should take a step back etc etc and I am heartily sick of people who do not own my horse and who have never seen my horse thinking that they know what I should do with her better than me and my very experienced trainers.

It’s a public forum and I accept that people can post whatever they want and that the only way to stop the wearying negativity is to stop posting. So next weekend, am I boxing to hack with a friend or am I jumping at Fox or am I doing an advanced dressage test? No one will ever know!

In fairness to the forum, if you write about glitches you’re having with a horse, people will jump in with all sorts of suggestions. Some helpful. Others not. You have to filter things a bit. However, I’ve never felt like I’ve had a slagging in these threads where you’re like, “horsey and I did x and had a great time.”

I have to say that 90% of the input I've had on my 'I'm having a problem' threads has been constructive. There are always people who don't read the OP properly or feel the need to go off on a tangent, but that's this forum through and through.

It isn't the walk, trot test that means people view you as rushing, more the out and about every weekend on a new, young and unsettled horse. But you do you.

In other news.....

Not hugely impressed with my e-riders results today. I actually thought I'd ridden two much better tests but feedback would say otherwise. So I think I need to sit down with the test sheets and the videos and do a bit of analysis. Its not that the results were awful, but I thought this time I'd nailed a couple of my weaker issues and apparently not!!

Sorry to hear it's a disheartening result for you, I hope the test sheets and watching the videos back will help it make more sense/be useful for next time. Frustrating when you think you've nailed something and it hasn't shown up in the results!

especially when its something so straightforward as going from trot to walk and back to trot again!!!

Was supposed to be at a Working Equitation training competition today, but Shambles has been feeling rather lethargic lately so had the vet out earlier in the week to pull bloods.
Results have come back with raised liver enzymes, so have put all plans on hold until they're back to normal.
So instead we babysat a couple of other liveries out on 'ploddy' hacks, whose horses can be a bit dramatic. So Sham stepped up as captain sensible and showed them how to do it.

Well done to all those who have been out and about.

Amber was excellent in her lesson on Friday evening despite the lousy weather, and we started work on flying changes right to left is coming but left to right is not happening yet. We just lunged Sat morning as she was on her toes, but she held it together for the farrier. She was then a complete idiot in the field and got herself wound up when the other horses were coming and going so I ended up hand grazing her for a while until she'd settled. Sunday morning, she'd lost a hind shoe in the field, no sign of it, but I took her anyway. She was very good as it was a new venue, just a couple of spooks, but again worked on changes a bit. Today she's had the dentist, all good just routine, but it's been a busy 4 days. We're off to camp on Friday evening, so there's no sign of it stopping, but she's got time off now until we can get the shoe replaced.
