We have a new horse and when we first went to see him as we approached the stable he would put his ears back but this wasn’t malicious. When we bought him back home he settled fine and when we went over to his box he did pin his ears back and has also started to try and nip at you if you go to touch the side of his face or neck. But when he is tied up outside you can do whatever to him and he wouldn’t even think about going for you. Not sure what has happened in his previous home and whether it’s just a matter of building trust in the stable? or possibly a behavioural issue?

Some horses protect their “home bubble”…daughters mare is like this to anyone who wants to linger near her stable. Doesn’t bite just slicks ears back to say keep away. Again as soon as in the stable or out she is perfectly amiable.
