Cow cob has been itching since we moved to England in September, but at first it was a skrichy spot then once the horses got put on half day turn out (YO didn't put her out much unfortunately and talking to ex boarders she seems to be known for it) it seems to have gotten worse, now to the point were she is itching herself raw. I've tried everything the YO has suggested as she is 100% convinced it's mites. She had mites and rainscald when we first got her. She has none of the signs she had before, no stomping, no nipping at her legs, no irritation in her lower legs or front legs. But I've treated for mites 3 times now and nothing.
I also think it could be the bedding, she's on the YO's straw which is very dusty (not to mention the cost!) so that will be changed next week onto shavings. A salt lick and some stable toys have also been ordered to see if it's boredom as well as she's a very high energy mare and she's only on 3 hours of turn out per day in a small field all to herself.
She was wormed not long after moving and has no worms in her poo that I've seen or discharge from her bum.
I'm moving her as soon as a spot opens at a yard closer to my house as I'm not to keen on the yard (YO gossiping about horse having mites along with other thing) and the turn out is single horse and I'd prefer group for horses sake.
