A good friend of mine's little sister (rising 11) has never ridden before and would love to go on an all day pony trek somewhere. I taught my friend to ride, so she knows how much hard work it would be, so she would like to find somewhere where her sister can get a bit of experience around horses and maybe a few rides. However they don't have much money, so can't afford regular riding lessons.

Does anyone know anywhere in Gloucester/hereford, preferably as close to Ledbury as possible, where this child could ride occasionally and have a play with ponies? She's a very sweet child (I've known her since she was in nappies!) and loves animals. Perhaps someone here has ponies or knows of a very reasonably priced place for her to get the occasional lesson/hack?

I'm in that area, but none of my horses would be suitable for her to be around (youngsters, etc).
If she can afford some lessons (I know it's really dear) Huntley School of Equitation is very good (but I don't know if it takes children or not).
Perhaps she could look into joining the local Pony Club and she might make horsey friends/be able to become involved that way (you don't need to own a pony to join, I think).

There's a lovely little riding school in Gothrington, Gloucestershire called Moat farm. It's where i went from the age of about 5! Iwas able to have lessons or hack out, and used to think it was great hacking out with the adults when i was about 7/8!! I used to also spend days up there, helping out and getting 2-3 rides a day which i loved.
Probably a bit far out but yard i'm at also does some childrens lessons and hacks, and again there very good and let the kids help tack up and turn out poines after. But it's the wrong side of Cheltenham for Ledbury.

Sharon Pudge may be the sort of thing she is looking for, not the smartest of places but I believe all the kids have a great time there and can hang around and get dirty etc and mess with the ponies, it's not a half hour and then you're off kind of place.

It's just outside Ledbury in a little place called Putley, if she drives into Putley and asks anyone where Sharon's is, they will know!

I don't think it would be an expensive place either.
