Is it possible to use plain wire and electrify it off a Leisure battery for an electric fence?

Can I then just use the plastic insulators that I've currently got for my electric rope fencing?

Deer keep running through the rope and breaking it, or when the battery is off, they're chewing it to bits

Grhhhhh!

We use plain wire above stockfencing to stop the horses and cattle leaning over it, its run on a mains fencer unit, but I'm not at all sure that a single strand plain wire would be safe generally, although we have used it and tied bits of hi-viz plastic tape to it....we have deer too.

I assume you are running it through a fencer? OK, dumb question. We use plain wire, but we also run an unpowered white tape near it for visibility purposes. Plain wire gives one good shock!!

Yes - it would run through a fencer kit.

I just want everything to stop breaking every time the deer decide to jump the fence and miss!!

I was going to get some of that bright orange plastic workmans stuff with the holes in it, if my field owner doesn't mind. Then both horses and deer can see where the fence is.

Anyone know where I can get that from and how much?

Thanks again

Deer can be a big problem! Mainly because they are quite often "Airborne" when they hit your fence. Sadly you can have the highest power fencer in the land and it will not stop a deer whilst in mid air. This is because for any animal to get a shock, they must be touching the ground as well as the electrified rope/wire. For effective deer control, you need 5 strands of wire: Set
