Plaiting a thick mane

I own a welsh x who's mane is so thick and i need to plait it on wednesday for dressage comp. I cant pull it as she absolutly hates it, it is fairly short really from using a solo comb its just the thickness.


Does anyone else have the same problem and how do i get it thinner etc?

Mane/tail rake works well on mine to thin it out.

as said above, mane and tail rakes work wonders. also use loads of plaiting gel, it really helps!

I would never do this for showing but for dressage I use "easiplaits"..... little hair scrunchie things with wire in. make fantastic plaits on my boy who has a bog brush mane

We have a cob and a wb. The wb is no problem to pull/plait but the cob we do have some difficulties with. Generally just do about 20 plaits I think is norm. Actually gives the illusion of a longer neck, and we tape them as it hides so many messies!!
