does anyone do it? Do you have any pics?

And more importantly how do you do it? I have a mare with a pretty thick mane (in the middle:rolleyes:) she hates you pulling it and i'm not much good at doing that anyway so wondered for ODE's, dressage etc whether to plait like this instead :)
Also do you plait the tail as well :)

Chocolate or banana muffin if you can help :D

THIS IS NOT MY HORSE but I don't have any photos of his plaits - here is what it looks similar to (my horse is a bay Anglo-Arab and his mane is lovely when it's long)

Ooo thanks :D really like the first pic thanks Millreef and good idea Figjam :)
I will add though my horse is a fidget especially if we are off to a show:rolleyes: but I will attempt some of these suggestions :D
I'm assuming with first pic you plait as normal and then just fold part of the plait:confused: looks really nice :)

Like this?

I did this on a welsh C who was shown so left in a natural state- his mane was over a foot long and wavy and thick (stunning!).

I take 3 sections at the top of the mane about an inch in width. I then use them in the first twist of the plait, and then as I go to the second twist I add another inch long segment. I pull it tightly into the plait and then continue down the mane like that. Once you get to the bottom of the mane and can't add any more finish the plait off right to the bottom with the 3 sections and then tuck it under the mane and sew it into place. Takes about 5 minutes to do and stays in really well- the picture above is post XC!

That looks great Lolo :D how long does it take you to do? :) Also I assume you plait the forelock? :) Do you do his tail as well? :)

Tail was left wild and free, as the pony was a little wired about the XC. But I did do his tail for dressage. I also french plaited his forelock (it was also very long!) and then folded it and sewed it in place. All in all, took me about 5 minutes including the forelock. First attempt took me nearly 15, but once you've got the swing of it you can do them really really quickly- just took me a while to work out what I was doing and how to make it sit along the crest neatly.

here is a very very quite one i done before riding on a hot day they are very easy to do with any mane , i have had a horse with chunks of mane missing and had previously trimed another horses mane so plaited it into the horse with missing mane

@ Lolo - wow!!! where are you? can you come over and show me how to a gorgeous plait like that on my PRE (Spanish horse)? No matter how well / tight I plait it, it still looks like he's been dragged through a hedge backwards after about 10 minutes of riding! We need an instructional video please ;))

I am a Norfolk/ Southampton girl :D

If we ever have a horse with a long enough mane, I will do a video as a few people have asked. Have you tried slicking it with water first? Gives them an afro the next day but helps it set into place!

@ Lolo - you're a true pro, that's possibly the best plait I've ever seen :D

No, I haven't tried slicking with water - good tip, I'll try it. Do you use any gel or spray to make it a bit sticky to help keep in place?

Nope, it gets so sticky and the hairs break- I don't use gels for normal plaiting either. I spray with 'hold fast' hair spray afterwards though and then run my hand down it so any stray hairs are stuck down by that. I also hate having sticky hands, so gels and the likes are a no-go!

Lol at the pro- it's my 'thing' that I can do! I'm useless on top of a horse, but they look nice :D :D
