I have a stunning cob with the most lovely, full long mane.

However, she does get very warm under her mane and I’ve been plaiting it without tying it (so it comes out in an emergency). But, this means it doesn’t stay in all day so she spends the afternoon being too warm.

Would I be safe having it tied in during the day? I’d take it out before I leave in the afternoon. I’m here most of the day as well because of the summer hols.

Here is the hairy beast with her plait!

You'd be absolutely fine using a plaiting band, or two or three looking at that gorgeous thick mane! It will easily snap if it needs to.

I'm on a yard with traditional cobs, and have one myself, and they basically live in plaits! Plaiting bands will snap if needed. I prefer doing multiple single plaits as opposed to a running one, as to me at least it reduces the amount of mane affected if they do happen to get tangled.

Ah fab, in that case she’ll be spending most days this summer with lots of plaits in her mane! I think I’ll do individual plaits from now on and save the running ones for hacking out.

It’s my first time having one this hairy, she came with her plaiting bands 😂

I have trads too and personally feel the hair breaks if plaits are left in. Mine will also rub them. I simple put mine in bunches all the way down the neck. The hair is off the neck so the air can get underneath but the hair cant get trapped in anything. This also leave the mane down for fly protection
