I'm doing an Intro A dressage competition soon and I told my instructor that I was going to plait up. She said that some people had a theory that rosebud plaits increase tension in the neck which leads to a worse performance. I understand that plaiting is optional at such a novice level but I want to look neat and tidy! If anyone could give their opinion/past experiences it would be very helpful. I may do a running plait instead as he has an unpulled mane. Merry Christmas!

I've never heard of that before and I've been riding plaited at shows all of my life 0.o??? It sounds like a silly statement to make - it would be like saying the bun in a ballerinas hair decreases her ability to preform and that it's easier for ballerinas to have their hair loose (which it's not. It would get in the way).

It does look neater to plait and shows are all about presentation :)!

So I'm pro-plaiting!

only if you put them in very very very tight! you could always plait him whilst he's eating off the floor if you are really worried.

If you put them in very tight I can see that, but that takes serious effort... Reg will merrily let you know if something like that is hurting (it's only the important stuff he keeps quiet about...) but has never raised a fuss...
