I just wondered what is the best thing to do with the whispy/sticky up bit of mane that is too short to plait at the end of the mane (near the withers).

Also my boy's mane has become really thick for some reason over the past few months and i'm struggling to get the plaits really neat and tight so any advice would be great...I wasn't blessed with skill of great plaiting!

Yup. Well I cut it off with scissors as Hal is a phobic. Looks neat though, and there's not much else to do with it! Just don't get too clipper happy and end up with a hogged mane.

Depends how long it is. But if just about 4 inch strip from where the mane starts at the withers then just chop it off!!!! If about 8 inches, try to get a bit more in the last plait and chop the rest off!!!!
