I have plaiting up down to a fine art now and can do maddarms mane in around 30 mins.

She has a VERY long neck combined with a VERY thick mane. I cant pull it as she freaks out totally ( she bleeds from the crest so its obv painful for her its not naughtyness ). I have used a mane rake in the past but as that cuts the hair from the underside it still levaes it thick and the base and when you plait up you get tufty bits on the underside.

At the mo i just have a pot of cheapo hair gel which can make things a bit simey untill its gone dry.

I am wondering if anyone uses stuff like lynn russels quick plait of something simliar to make plaiting easier rather than stardard hair gel????

I refuse to go and spend a tenner on one if its cr@p but if it makes her mental silly mane easier to plait im all for giving it a go.

i use hair gel mouse and a toni and guy hairsculpting glupy stuff (got it for my hair but farto gunky gd for platiting though and am very naughty and cut all the sticky up bits off

I have used and easy plait and it does help however i use gel spray instead and it does exactly the same job. It makes the mane a bit sticky so you can get a much tighter plait.

I would save your money and buy a gel spray instead.

Don't use any just good old fashioned water, wet the mane with a sponge divide up to plait and then plait you get a nice tight plait and no stickiness afterwards, I always pull my horses manes after exercise when they are warm they don't creat then as the mane comes out easier.

I've got that Lynn Russel quick plait stuff and it is good stuff, worth the money and all that. However, I'm quite convinced its a human hair product "converted" for equine use. It smells lovely. I reckon its good old fashioned granny style setting lotion. When the bottle runs out, then I shall be trying a human hair potion to see if I can get the same results.

ETA I have a grey to plait, we always have to wash the mane just before we plait, no chance of leaving it 24 hours with him!

Setting lotion - 79p a bottle from Wilkos - FAB. Plaits set like rock, but feels like water on the mane whilst plaiting.
