Might sounds likea really stupid question but im getting very much confused.
What side do you plait a horses mane on, i always plaited my boys mane on the right but ive been to shows and seen horses with plaits to the left side.
So yeah my question is:
What is the proper side to plait your horses mane on, the left or the right?

right. some horses manes lye to the left and therefore some people think they should plait it that side, but i beleive that it is correct to plait on the right hand side

Right side unless your horse is chestnut when it should be the left... or is it the other way round? Chestnuts should definately be plaited the opposite side traditionally.

Just saying what my instructor has always taught!

She's shown at RIHS, HOYS etc (but not hunted) and I would defend her to the end of the earth. Not saying she can't be wrong of course, but it would be a very rare thing!

My horses mane lies to the left so i always plait on the left, we have just won two showing classes and qualified swpa, all the judge saide was my plaits were not that smart, my horse had a hogged mane and now has a mane so its like a loo brush, there is no right r wrong way, do what suits your horse.

Damping the mane down does help with plaiting.

My ponies mane was laying over both sides and was too thick to do anything with. She isn't a native so one day i slipped with the clippers and now she has no mane! ha ha.
I always plat to the right when i have to.
