Have acquired some small people to ride my welsh x (12.2) and i am sure if they get along they would like to take her to some fun shows (i.e prettiest mare, best mane and tail, gymkhanas).

Polly has a natural long mane and tail, as she isnt pure welsh, does she have to be plaited up, or can i arab plaite her mane of would it have to be pulled?

I posted this on question on another site; and the answer was "pull it out and plaite her up", and im sorry, but no f*****g way! It doesnt suit her at all (as some loaners did it to her years ago) and loose her beautiul (fluffy but not thick) long mane, and for what? and giggley show!

She gets plaited up (arab Plaite) most nights to keep it clean so most of the time is lovley and wavey! just the way I like it!

Does anyone else have this problem!?

Is that her on your sign-in? If so then thats a gorgeous mane. As she is native you should not have to plait and she should be shown in her natural state (but clean and tidy). You could arab plait but I think au natural would look best - especially in prettiest mane comps!

seh is part breed and therefore can be either left long or plaited. It is up to you! Both look smart and for gymkhanas and such you can arab plait.

i tried to put some pics on but they wernt working!

So... if she went into a ridden class she could go natural? and she wouldnt be marked down for not being pure?..

Thanks for the help!

Ive come from the Arab world (so i guess im basing it on Arabs and Anglo-Arab classes!) but i was under the impression that all parts HAVE to be plaited, is this just for part bred and pure classes, but not for just general ridden classes?....

To be honest its not really mine either! (it scares me!,..think its the people watching! ah!) but i think the girls will like to,....if they can handle her (shes can be a bit flighty! ..she sometimes thinks shes a pure arab as she was brought up with them!)

:P

Even if she is part bred she can still be shown in mountain and moorland type classes, and as a mountain and moorland type she would not be expected to be plaited even for riding pony, first ridden, etc etc. We used to do those classes with our first pony (he was a full section c), however we never got asked about his breeding unless it was pure M&M classes. If you were palnning to do best turned out you should think about an arab plaint, however our boy would often get placed un plaited. For prettiest mane/tail deffo unplaited.
