Hi all, I'm doing a working hunter show in a couple of weeks and I want to plait my mare as she isn't m&m. I want to get it right so what are the best ways of doing it to get the best result? I usually use rubber bands but I find the result is that she rubs them out far too easy. She has a long neck so I'm aiming for 13 plaits

When does she rub them out? Do you plait the night before? Try getting one of the snuggy hoods for her to wear so she can't rub them out either over night or whilst travelling. Then do her forlock when you arrive :) good luck!

Sewing has a much neater finish and they stay in really well if put in properly.
Its quite easy ones you know how to do it, and its just practice practice and more practice.
I seperate the mane into even bunches with bands then plait to the bottom and band the bottom, i always loop the bottom bit up rather than leave spikey. Then get the thread wrap round a few times round the band then thread up throught the bottom of the plait where youve just wrapped round. Then fold the plait in half and thread through the middle of the top of the plait at the base of the neck. Then stitch a few times down the folded plait till you get to the bottom and fold in half again and thread through to the base of the neck in the middle of the bobble. Once youve done that bring the thread to the side of the plait to the bottom of the bobble up through the middle and brind the thread round to the other side, you can repeat a few times if the bobble is loose finish by going down the middle of the bobble and cutting the thread as close to the bobble as poss.
I hope that makes sense, see if you can find somebody to watch a few times makes it a bit easier to watch it been done.:)

Thanks, I plait in the morning and she rubs them out in the trailer!!

Thanks also you make more sense than most people on how to do it
