Evening everyone.

Is it ok to plait/pull a cob type if he has feathers or should he be turned out with a natural mane. My boy has lovely feathers and full tail, i am letting his mane grow at the mo, its quite thick and lays nicely apart from being on the near side, but im not sure if it suits him longer (prob abot 6-8" currently) so i wondered if its ok to show pulled/plaited and not clip out his feathers for local showing?

Im just thinking ahead to next years showing season, and lots of warm sunny days to take my mind off of the cold winter ahead

Dont pull it, but I think you can do a running/Arab plait (although not for showing). I do this with mine as I find he has such a thick mane he sweats underneath it in summer-even when hes not doing anything!

If you want to keep the feathers then the mane must remain au natural!

if you want to plait/pull the feathers must come off (however then in theory for showing your cob should be hogged!)

No it is so wrong to mix plaits and feather at any level of showing.

For a proper cob you need to either clip legs, hog mane and pull and bang tail, for a light cob you can get away with clipped legs, and pulled and plaited mane and tail or leave everything natural. A good traditional cob can never be mistaken for a show cob as very different when compared to one.

Some people show the more native type of traditionals with a tidied mane, as you would for a section D welsh but those with the really good hairies, have very long manes and tails.

I currently have full feather, full mane and tail, but as Chancer is still filling out, keep his mane to about 14" to have his front end look a bit more chunky than it would with a mane down past the bottom of his shoulder.

Thanks everyone, we will continue with the mane growing for now, as i do love his feathers, and if i ever get the hang of putting photos on here i will post some pics of him.
