What you doing/done with your 4 year olds now winter is on the way?
I backed my cob last summer as a 3yr old, rode till about October/November time then turned away till Feb. Fell pregnant (not planned!) and she has now been turned away since may time. She was 4 in may. Before being turned away she was hacking alone and in company, schooling basically and had a few outings at w& t dressage, probably ridden around 4 x per week.
My baby is due December so am planning on bringing her back into work in the Feb/march time then sending her to my mums for the summer months for happy hacking, having her back in September, a months fittening work then hoping to introduce her to some jumping and light hunting. She will be 5 then.
I have a colt who will turn 3 in may also, planning to start him in the July time and get him plodding about and a bit of the same as what i did with the cob, then turning him away in the September when my cob comes back for winter, till about April time as a 4yr old. Figured i won't have time to do both horses justice over the first summer with the baby in all (even though baby will be going to nursery a few hours a couple of days per week)
Does this sound like a good plan?!
