I have the chance to put in for planning permission for a stable block on some land.

I understand the stables have to comply with the PP in terms of where sited, materials used, design, and size, that's not an issue. The thing I've not yet got into my thick head (bad cold, at least that's my current excuse) is how to do / get the plans. If I contact stable suppliers then they'll, probably(?) want an order before releasing their plans, but the building won't start until sometime towards the end of next year and the owner won't have the funds for building (both base and stables) 'till then.

I know there's an architect to hand, however I believe he's the one who's asked for details of what the stables will be made of and look like...

Maybe I'm overthinking this and she just needs to give the materials and the sizes and the architect will turn them into drawings. She's not after anything bespoke or fancy smart, just basic stables.

Anyone any experience and / or suggestions?

We did our own. Ask the planners what they require in terms of size and scale and how many copies etc. Design and access statement etc. They don't need to be very involved for outline pp. After all it's just multiples of a square box isn't it?

Most companies will draw you up plans for a small fee which will be deducted from the price if you subsequently order from them ...
We did this. Withington Hill supplied the elevation drawings for a cost of £70, which they refunded when we put the order for the stables in. We did the PP for the stables and the field shelters ourselves using these drawings.

We had an architect do them, but they were that simple I wished Id done them myself. I remember when i was looking at companies to build the stables that some companies has brochures with pretty adequate plans as well as pictures.

Simple plans are fine, but keep them accurate (size, siting on plot, orientation, location of muck heap (they will ask) but best advice is to speak to the planners before anything else and find out what is acceptable. They're so much easier to deal with that way round.
