Plating a trailer

I have an old Rice trailer, the weight plate has had all markings completely rubbed off.

Going through the towing thread it seems trailers can be downplated, how do I go about getting my trailer plated? I'm planning on taking it to a weighbridge but is there anyone who makes plates? If I made one myself would that actually be valid?

Thanks

If you post your question on the towing clinic "stickie" at the top of the Competing & Training Forum, then I'm sure that ROG will be able to answer your question.

Hmmmm. More than slightly worried that if plates have been "rubbed off" that it's been nicked and they've tried to make it un-identifiable......without meaning to sound negative. Is there a serial number anywhere?

Rice is out of business. Most sensible thing to do is to research what the weights are for the same model. Bit of Googling should do that. Then as long as you stick within those and especially if you're not using it commercially you should - fingers crossed - be OK....

If you want to do it properly Google SVTech and see what they have to say.

It doesn't look like it's actually been manually removed, more just faded. I think it's a 1970/80s model, just rear unload. Will have a look see if I've missed the serial number.

For trailers under 3500kg only the manufacturer of that trailer can plate it

Rice Richardson are no longer trading so that trailer cannot be plated

Without a plate the MAM of the trailer is deemed legally by adding up all the tyre load ratings

If you have a B+E licence then there is no need to worry about it - just make sure you do not exceed the weight limits of the trailer or the vehicle

Thanks, how do I find out the tyre load ratings?
