Hi everyone, this is my first time posting on here so this is quite strange and i'm not really quite sure of how to word it all but here goes..

Basically one of my mares is undergoing a stifle operation this monday 9th December (I know thats soon but I've had no laptop to post from) and we keep them on our own land, its a very basic set up, field, 3 stables no arena, only lights are in stables etc. so our vet has recommended (and we agree) that in the 6 weeks after her operation that we put her on livery at another yard, preferably a rehab yard that is used to this kind of care, she will have to stay in so a yard where there will be some other horses staying in to keep her company will be ideal. The main reason we want to put her on livery is so that there will be somewhere safe with lights where we can walk her out, whereas where she is now she is VERY attached to my other horses, and would quite happily drag me around the field to go and see them, she's sweet just very hot headed and a proper yard would be the best option.

We are based in Stockport SK4 and aren't looking for somewhere not too far away, our vet has recommended new barn farm in chelford but that is a bit too far away for us, she also recommended pear tree farm in mottram-in-langendale i think it was but i don't have the number so if someone does could they please send it me? any recommendations are welcome and we would start thinking about travelling if the place is right, i just want to know my little girl is going to be looked after and i need somewhere where she will hopefully stay calm and theres somewhere safe to walk her out, thank you.

Hi Sally,

My lad had the same op earlier this year on his stifle. Im guessing you will need somewhere also that will let you have a small pen for a number of weeks/months.

Happy hooves on matley lane is one to consider as she has excellent facilites and indiviual turn out. I dont have the number to Pear tree but i hear its also got excellent facilities. I can let you know where it is so you can pop down if your not sure on location.

I actually did the opposite to you and moved from a livery yard to my own place. I had the freedom then to make pens and i just walked out in hand in hi viz and a torch.

Hi. Have you had a look at Lower Dale Farm near Marple? I do have reservations about recommending it long term - we kept one of our horses there for about a year and decided to move for various reasons, but when we first went there, the horse was on box rest having just had a stifle operation and they did everything they could to accommodate our needs. They have a 60 X 20 floodlit menage and there are places for you to walk in hand. I know Pam Rigby at New Barn and I really would recommend that you think carefully before dismissing it as too far... we now keep our horses at Great Warford which is literally 5 minutes away from New Barn - the journey from Romiley takes me on average 30 minutes up the A34 or on the M56 - which wouldn't be too horrendous for the 6 weeks rehab? Good luck - box rest isn't easy but it's well worth the investment - our chap has gone on to represent the North West region at dressage...
