Hi, Doodle came in lame last night :(.
First thought was that as the field is so hard and rutted it had flared her arthritis, so wasn't too concerned untill I got her to her stable.
She seemed extremely lame even once I'd got her onto the flat and as soon as I picked her hoof up I found the problem, she had a nail impailed into her frog :eek:. Emergency vet out and she removed the nail and Doodle seemed sound straight away, so it's looking almost hopeful that she hasn't damaged the tendon but they are coming out this morning to x-ray and see the extent of the damage:(.

So please can I have some vibes that it has miraculously missed the tendon and any other important structures and there is no infection setting in! Pointless thread really but I'm panicking slightly, she is my best friend.

moleskinsmum, I should have said she was given antibiotics last night via a massive syringe:eek:, never seen such a big injection! Doodle was NOT impressed!:mad::D



And for everyone who likes a bit a gore here is a not very clear picture of the offending item!

Well the vets been and we didn't need x-rays :D:D!!!!
She is really pleased with Doodle's progress overnight and as she seems completely sound is confident sthe nail missed anything major in the hoof! Just got to be very careful about infection now, so it will be a week in and some poulticing to keep it clean, but fingers crossed it all looks good!
I'm so relieved I can't tell you :D.
And just because she was such a good patient some piccies :):

Thanks, she's 20 this time :eek:! But she refuses to believe that she is a veteran :D, still in work and going strong when not piercing bits of herself! She's a Part-Bred Arab from the Roedean Stud, mainly crossed with thoroughbred but if you go far enough back there is a lusitano in there, so she can't be classed as an Anglo. Love her to bits and she is as sweet as she looks, she is such a darling :o:.
 
Thought she was Arab x when first saw pics of her ( not the hoof one, the head ones!) the profile and eye is a bit of a giveaway! Very beautiful indeed, and true to type, not acting her age - good for her, and you for keeping her looking so well. Glad the nail in frog wasn't more serious and she enjoys being snugged up in her stable, stuffing hay!
 
Thanks everyone, she is the best even if she is a bit of a diva :D. She has been telling me for a while that she would like to be an indoor pony, with lots of minions attending to her every move :rolleyes:.
She had managed to remove 2 poultices today the little pest :mad:, but hopefully the last one is secured enough with duct tape and an over-reach boot :rolleyes:, to see us till the morning! Anyone got any tips for keeping the dammed things on?

Well a little update, Doodle is doing fab :D, there seems to be no sign of infection and she is certainly feeling well :rolleyes:.
Here's a video from today, which was suppose to be a small stretch of the legs on the lunge as I can't walk her out because of the snow, (the lane is impassiable).

Tehe she was full of beans and not as stiff as I thought she'd be :D.
