Feeling a bit down at the moment, my mare has been lame for four months now and I feel like we're going round in circles - getting nowhere - and I can't see a light at the end of the tunnel. She's only 7 so is much too young to be retired 
Her story in as brief form as I can get it - I'd decided to put her up for sale even though I really didn't want to I felt like she might suit a different home with someone a little less ambitious in terms of jumping height. So anyway after a few time wasters someone had her vetted and she sailed through the vetting until the final trot up where she was at worst 2/10 lame and that was only on the odd stride on a small circle on a hard surface and to a non horsey person she would have looked sound. Anyway so we gave her a good month off on a mixture of box rest and limited turn out and I think with some bute but she didn't come right. So then came many trips to the vet involving have her leg blocked three times, the first time up to her knee I think, the second time similar and the third time her whole leg. Anyway she got more lame so that was no use and indicated it must be in the shoulder where the block doesn't reach (large area). They x-rayed her knee and fetlock just in case - both fine. So they decided she needed a bone scan - that got postponed twice - finally she went in last Wednesday for a bone scan the following day. Bone scan showed that there is indeed something going on in the shoulder. Went to visit her on Saturday (wasn't allowed to prior to that as she was radioactive) and all her coat is falling out (more so than would be normally at this time of year) not sure if it's due to stress or the radioactive substance either way felt very sorry for my poor little girl. So today they x-rayed her shoulder - nothing particularly to report there. They ultrasound scanned her shoulder - nothing to report, tendon looks ok. So now they're trying to block a bursar (?) anyway it sounds like a very complicated thing and after two failed attempts today they're going to try again tomorrow.
So in summary we're 4 months down the line and seemingly no closer to find out or possibly solving the problem. It is so her, through and through, to have something weird and complicated and unusual going on - it really is Suni all over.
Hopefully I'll get her back tomorrow (her boyfriend is missing her muchly! as am I!!) Everyone at the vets loves her though and they say she's fab to do, never fusses comes out just as jolly each time regardless of how many needles they stick in her or what they do etc.
Sorry it got a bit long but it's just so frustrating and upsetting, I really hope they can find out what it is at least, even if there's nothing that can be done to help. So yes, any vibes would be gratefully received and I can update when I know more if anyone is interested.
