I have just taken ownership of a 3 year 6 months cob mare 14hh back end still quite high and she has filling out to do, she has been backed and is very calm and laid back. From what I can gather she was living out for the first three years (tethered) by the state of her neck where she had out grown what ever was used :(

I am not planning to ride/ school her till summer, she's on haylege at night and out in the day. What should I be feeding her, at the moment I am using cool mix with nothing else. Any advice please x

If I were you I would carry on with the haylage (ad lib) and a stud balancer with a fast fibre.

This is all my daughters youngster has had since he was 6 months old and he thrived on it.

Fibre fibre and more fibre. Haylage or hay [ introduce any change over about 10 days to avoid upsetting hind-gut flora] and some hi-fi lite in a bucket with a general vit-min supplement. Ensure worming is up to date and that her teeth are ok.

This - although I prefer hay rather than haylage, which might be too rich for her is she's just been tethered out most of her life.
