....a nice chocolate or fawn working/show cocker (bitch)?

My parents weren't liking the Great Dane idea and seeing as there are the odd weekends that they have Archie, I thought it best to tow the line ;)

Decided that if I can't have a GD there really is only one other dog for me so on the lookout for a nice puppy. Thanks guys

I think the colours are actually liver and golden in cockers (sure someone will correct me if I am wrong). Just so you don't turn down the colour you want because it has a different name.:)

I must be getting old :o Like MM, I've only ever heard chocolate in the context of labs and liver for dalmatians, spaniels, dobes and (yeuch) GSDs etc.

Hope you find the perfect one :)

Chocolate is NOT a colour in Spaniels, the KC don't register them as that, but it sounds nicer and fashionable at the minute hence puppies being advertised that way. Ive never in my life heard of a fawn spaniel  There are lemon ones and golden ones, but no fawn.

Thanks Kh, thought it was old age catching up with me again. Mind you as you say people are using some new and fancy names now. In GSDs you see blues, champagnes etc advertised, none of which are KC breed standard. It might seem like nit picking but my concern would be if people advertise non standard colours they quite likely don't bother with health checks etc either.

I think the KC went through a stage of allowing Chocolate to be registered, but I'm pretty sure they have to be Liver now.
When my Mum was looking for her pup, she flat out refused to even ring up about litters advertised as Chocolate! :D

It definately wasn't for a while, when my Mum got her pup she was told the KC wouldn't allow Chocolate as a registered colour.
Chocolate and Liver aren't different colours though, they just use Chocolate because it sounds nicer than Liver.

Tbh just because the KC will accept a colour for registration it doesn't necessarily mean its acceptable to the breed standard, they will happily take the money to register colours in gsds that aren't in the breed standard. Not saying this is the case in spaniels, but the kc aren't known for turning away registration fees.:( If you are looking for an older pup it may be worth trying breed specific rescue, 6 -8 months is often when people decide they can no longer cope with the bundle of trouble.

this is very true MM...I have seen 2 litters of vizslas registered as RED this year!!!!!! The only acceptable colour is russet gold in vizslas. To be fair I'm sure the pups were russet gold but were obviously bred/registered by complete divs!

I know what you mean about colours - mantle Danes were never acceptable years ago and now they seem to be.....and they look unsightly to me!

I will refer to them as liver from now on ;)

Yes, you may be right about rescues think I'll have a call around.
