Just thought I'd let you know I found a piece of speedi beet with a layer of metal coating it (with a sharp edge to it) yesterday in it's dry form after being put in to the 'speedi beet bucket'. Please double check yours if you use it as there could be some more spread throughout different bags. A letter with photos has already been sent off informing the company etc.. Just please have a look through it as it could end up not a pretty sight if any makes it's way in to your horse! (or any horse for that matter!!!)

It may have just been a slight fault in their machinery but I don't want to hear somebody's horse has eaten a part of it and had internal injuries or had to be pts :( please spread the word to anyone who uses it!

I hope you get some compensation for that! I scoop my Speedibeet in the dark so I don't think I would notice :-0

I normally scoop mine in very poor light!! It was really lucky as I had taken a scoop of it home to heat in the morning and add to their feeds. Was talking to OH in the kitchen fiddling around with it and noticed something shiny bury itself as I moved the extra large horse sized spoon, to have a dig and find that!!!!! I couldn't believe it!

What it does look like is a part of the machinery that may be used to process the speedie beet. It is something that can and does happen when there is machinery used. But in saying that there should be things put in place to catch this, for example magnets and seives.

Interestingly, there is a problem at my local feed merchants with the Speedy Beet delivery, so maybe they are already onto the problem.

I hope they are! It's dangerous!!

Dubsie - No problem!! It's just a bit worrying when you find this kind of stuff in their feed isn't it :( glad none of yours were injured and you noticed it!

Thank you for informing us. I have noticed in the past year or so more and more foreign objects in my horses feed, everything from stones to bits of sticks, especially in molassed chaff and ready grass. I thought feed manufacturers high tech machines were good enough to pick out this stuff, obviously not.
