I followed our local hunt a couple of times last year on foot. The hunt secretary has posted to me a meets list for this season and a list of costs. Being new to all this I dont understand it. If I join the hunt do I need to pay a cap? and if I go as a visitor how many times can I join in. If I go as a visitor do I have to pay the visitors fee and a cap? Do I have to join the hunt?

Each Hunt handles cap and visiting differently.

Generally speaking Full Subscription means that for the duration of the current hunting season you are a member and may attend on horse or foot as many times as you like without getting permission.

Some Hunts have a Part Subscription, for example our Hunt it is a one off payment for the current season of £300 and then £10 paid on each day that you actually hunt on your horse, no permission to attend required.

Then there is a Visitors Cap, which is an amount payable on the days that you actually hunt with your horse, and for which you request permission from hunt secretary or Master to attend. There is usually a limit to the amount of times you can attend on a visitors cap, for our hunt it is three times before they require you to pay subscription.

Our hunt also has a subscription for car followers.

Hope this helps a little x

With our hunt there is a subscription (membership) on top of which you pay field-money (cap) each day you hunt, unless you have paid a 'compounded' subscription which then covers both 'membership' and 'cap' for the season.

If you don't pay a subscription you pay a higher 'day cap' (visitor) and can do that as many times as you like, however, if you hunt more that about 16 times you are better off subscribing.

All these are for mounted followers.

Hope that helps.

VoR will know but I think we still have an unmounted sub? So if you are only going on foot you can still join if you wish. Having said that I'm pretty sure we now have a set day cap for foot followers which may well be in place of that! Basically every hunt is different so it's best to ask your (hopefully) friendly secretary for clarification or I'm sure if you PM the list to some of us we could explain it for you if you have a scary secretary ;)

Thanks all for your help. I am going to ring the secretary for clarification. I think I need to pay a visitors cap, but will check.
