"Cross pole clear round" will be a standard "clear round" class but in which all the fences will be cross pole felces. Cross pole fences help the horse to jump straight. In a "clear round" class there's no timed section and everyone who jumps the correct course without any knock downs, refusals or run outs will get a rosette. There are no placings.

Cross pole clear round = all of the fences will be cross poles (rather than straights or spreads). You simply jump the course and if you go clear (no refusals, knowdowns or falls) then you get a rosette.

Cross pole jumping all D.C. equal first = all of the fences will be cross poles. If you go clear in your first round then you will jump a second round. Anyone who goes clear in both of their rounds (Double Clear - D.C.) will be in equal first place.

Bottom hole jumping = All fences will be uprights on the bottom hole. Single phase can vary depending on the venues interpretation. It may mean just one timed round or may mean one round and then a jump off (as opposed to 2 phase where you jump the first x fences of a course and then jump the remaining fences only if you are clear so far)

40cm open pole phase = Unsure about this other than that the fences will be 40cm

"bottom hole jumping single phase" means the height of the jumps will be the bottom hole on the jump wings. There will be no jump off (second round). It will likely be timed. Run outs, refusals and knock downs will incur faults. Clear rounds (no faults) will be placed with the fastest 1st and so on, if there aren't many clear rounds then the riders with faults may get placed too. Hope that makes sense!

ETA Ruth explains it better. "40cm open" could mean open to all riders/horses regardless of what classes they may have won or been placed, in the past. 40cm is the height of the jumps.
