Ok so as some of you know I found out I had cancer etc etc needed operations etc etc so moved Rocky to a yard closer to home which offered more help. Now, I have only been there a couple of weeks but since I have been there I have done nothing but worry.

A) Rocky is wild
B) When i got there my field was full off the previous livery's poo and full of weeds/ragwort etc
C) I moved all my electric fencing to another bit of paddock, and again had to clear all the ragwort out.
D) Things started to perk up a bit as Rocky settled a bit and got a field mate
E) I find out yesterday that this could change at any time and he may be moved, may be on his own etc etc
F) Lots of hidden little charges are finding their way onto my bill
G) It is difficult to hack at new yard as everybody hoons around which Rocky finds too exciting
H) The outdoor school is busy
I) The indoor school does not look to be getting finished any time soon

Should I just phone my old yard today and ask if I can go back? All it would mean is I would have to pay a friend to do Rocky in the mornings for me, Rocky would be twenty five mins further away for me in the evening, no indoor school and only 2 jumps. BUT 24/7 turnout.

I am going to call my old yard on my lunch break but please please can you either reassure me that I am doing the right thing..... or tell me to stop being silly???

Thanks xx

The LAST thing you need right now is worry.

Move back to the old yard. It may be a bit further away but you have someone there you can rely on to do Rocky for you, you know he is settled and you will know what you are paying for and when.

I wish you all the best and hope you will be well again soon.

i would move him back, it sounds like alot of stress happenning at this new place that you just really dont need right now

If you are paying for a field at a livery yard -and probably paying plenty enough-then surely the field should be in a suitable condition for your horse to move into? If you are DIY then I still think the field should be prepared even if it is up to you to maintain it?

Have you spoken to the YO?

Rocky,

I don't know the background to your story, but I do wish you all the very best with your operations etc. I agree that the last thing you need at the moment is horse/yard related stress as well. Given the info above, I would be inclined to move back to the old yard, because it doesn't sound as if you'll ever be happy at the new place.

Is there nowhere else nearby that you could go? (I guess if there was, you would have explored the options already - but as I said, I don't know the background to your story).

What part of Bucks are you in? If you are in the south of the county I may be able to give some recommendations as to other suitable yards.

I live in Winslow and am working in Hazeley in MK. My old yard is Quainton (so not on route to work!!!).

What others do you know of??

Many thanks xx

Sorry to hear your news. Hope things look up for you soon.As everyone else says, move asap. You can live without this stress and if youare having ops and feeling ill it will be a while before you feel like doing much riding anyway.

Ditto others - you DO NOT need the stress of this. Move him back to your old yard, or imho somewhere that will look after him completely for you untill you are back on your feet. You don't need to be worrying about horse's right now.

((((hugs)))) wishing you a speedy recovery x

Sorry Rocky, but unfortunately you're the wrong end of the couty for me. I had hoped to be able to help but I know nothing north of Aylesbury.

However, I did do an endurance training ride last weekend at Kingsland Farm in Drayton Parslow. Got no actual knowledge of the place, but at a glance it looked quite nice. Might be worth a look if it's within reach of you?

Good luck.

Hi, I would move him back if you can. I moved Che last year, lasted 1 week at the new yard, then moved back to my original place. No particular issue with the new place, tbh Che actually settled quite well, I just didn't feel right about it. Sometimes things just aren't right for you. I can recommend Kingsland, know the owners personally and used to share a horse there, nice friendly yard, knowledgable owners with horse sense and good facilities and riding. If ever you need a hand let me know, I would be happy to help if I can.

No need to worry. I have got a yard, liveries...and as a yard manager, I know it is REALLY not that hard to keep on top of everything if you are not lazy. Unfortunately many are lazy!!!

Most of the above could probably be sorted with communication - speak to the yard owner/manager, explain you are not well and worried about the yard.

Livery yards do value your custom - they are providing a service and if it is not up to scratch, then discuss it. Most of the things you are not happy with are very easily rectified.

If you are not happy once you have tried to speak to people, then move, but you sound like you could do without more stress to be honest.

One more thing...the paddock weeds/ragwort/unfinished school/hooning liveries must have been there before you moved

so perhaps if you are not that happy now, you never will be.

I called my old yard and they said they would have me back! Think I have one or two weeks left paid for here so I might wait it out or just see if I can leave this weekend!

Big sigh of relief

The sooner the better, why wait if your paid up i would just go, it will be a big relief. I've debated over movingbefore going to my current yard and its such a weight off your shoulders when you actually do it.
best of luck with the move and with your health x
