Here is a trial website I have set up. I will have a proper one done in the near future but would appreciate it on what peoples thoughts are. How to improve it and what more I should add in when I get the "real" one done.

I would like to put videos of the horses working at home and their day to day routine but not sure if this would be tedious or if in fact anyone would be really bothered about little old me!!!

Please give me ideas or tell me anything negative.

I hate talking about myself and would rather just concentrate on the horses but feel a website for a small business is really valuable these days.

Here is the link, I hope it works!

P.S Thanks in advance!

Hi, just had a look at your site and it looks pretty good! Lots of great pictures and it comes across as really friendly. There is a but, though please don't be offended, I used to be a professional proofreader/copywriter for a graphic design company providing business websites, and you have a few mistakes here and there that need correcting, nothing major, and overall I really do like the website. If you would like me to go through it properly and give you a full run down PM and I'll send you my comments.

Please, please don't take offence, only want to help. :)

I only looked at the mobile site, but I thought it is a good site & informative.

If I may, I would run your text through a spell checker. My husband is a website designer and he often misses te spelling of a word just because he has seen it so much.

Also, try to ensure that the whole site is consistent, what happens on one page should be the same on all the others.

It is a good site though and not too busy, which is a web pet hate of mine!

Thanks everyone and no offense taken in any way!! I must admit I didn't spell check and so will go through it when I have a few hours spare and sort them out!! It's really much harder than what I thought it would be to do!

Looks like the making of a good site - your yard and knowledge is coming over as being friendly, experienced and caring.
I teach ICT (only at primary) I always emphasis the need for clarity of text. On your 'About Me' page it looks like you have made the font 'bold' it's quite difficult to read. Maybe try Comic sans, arial, times or verdana.
Personally I'm not keen on a black background with white or purple font - a blue may be easier on the eye with a white font.
Try a higher definition photo for the front page and some pics of your stables/facilities somewhere and run a spell check!
Good luck with your venture :) Hope this doesn't come across too negative.

Not at all, I appreciate it and am taking on board all of the issues I need to work on. That's why I thought it would be good to get other peoples opinions.

The other thing you might want to look at is your text size as it fluctuates and the smaller type is harder to read, especially being white on a black background. :)

"Maybe try Comic sans" no, really don't. Nothing says crap website like Comic sans.

Keep it simple and clean, no silly fonts, no crazy colours on clashing backgrounds (think blue on red, kills your eyes!).

Look at as many sites as possible and see what you like and what you don't.

Eg horsepitality website, clever yet simple. Bookmark them all and then take time to go through what you like and what you don't.

I'm going to have a look at your actual site now as I confess to only having seen your mobile site.

:)

The writing on the About me page hurts my eyes! :D
I was thinking I have heard of Turtle Beach, then I read your blog page. I have ridden against Siobhan, she is really good rider. Is she not riding in the northern area this year?

Nice first effort, well done.

Agree with what has been said by others. You need to:

1. make sure all your fonts are the same type / size on every page (don't use Times New Roman. Tahoma is a good font to use as it is clear and distinctive. Keep all text Left aligned as it makes it easier for people to read down the paragraphs if they are not fully justified.
2. consider changing the black background / white text (and purple). Research shows that this combination is the hardest for the eye to read. Why not try a pale grey background to make it a bit different from white?
3. have high quality images and remember not to 'stretch' any to fit the available space. I don't think you have done that but just though it worth mentioning.
4. check spelling etc
5. make sure each section doesn't run too much over 1 page / screens worth. again, people don't like having to 'scroll' down too much.

:)

Yes she is but I have known her since she was knee high to a grasshopper! She is a great rider!

I think for a trial website you have done very well. I do have some points though as a browser and also I have helped design and format webites before.

1. as others have mentioned your pic on home page needs to be a higher spec of poss :) its a fab pic though.

2. along the top toolbar I clicked yard before about me "could these sections be changed around maybe add a link in yard section to "about me" too.

3. you have some fantastic pics on the site, is there any chance you could alter (&make smaller) the pics on each of the sections of the site.

I did not look at the text too much, im very much about layout and how easy it is to navigate when it comes to websites, always a good start in my mind. :D
I do hope you dont take offence to my points. :)

Great start! Nice and simple; great images, very important and always a good foundation for a website.
Ditto the spellcheck
The font for the 'body' text is very difficult to read, in particular the blue on the black and where it is bold on the 'about me' page. Maybe use a very dark grey background or a very light grey font? Pure white on black background is very difficult to read in large quantities on a web page.
Is the font you have chosen 'web safe'? If you change it for another font god's sake DON'T use Comic Sans!
I think you could do with a kind of 'tag line' to summarise immediately what Glebe farm is on the first page, Blammo - first thing you see, then a paragraph to expand on it.
First pic on first page looks a bit pixilated. Any pictures of the yard available rather than a racing pic on the 'yard' page? On the 'Horses' page, try and keep all the images the same size, just makes it look more consistent and professional.
Look forward to seeing the finished product well done!

LS - good luck with your business but be careful because Forum T&Cs say quite clearly no advertising of any kind. I know you've asked for feedback but come on, it's advertising!

I like where you are going and loved the horses of course!

When I went to the 'about me' page I didn't even try reading, I couldn't focus on one word and hence didn't try at all.

I did find the text hard to read, as another has mentioned with the black background and white text. Perhaps I just need an eye test...:p

No it's not advertising at all. I honestly am wanting feedback on the website. Before I pay a fortune for a proper website I wanted to hear what people would want to see and how they would want to see it.
