Please help! Am at a loss! Permanent stains on my grey...

So Gosling cup is next weekend and there is a mega strict, competitive turnout phase! I can get my grey reasonably clean, but he has permanent stains on his flanks and elbows :( I've looked on here and tried vinegar, hibiscrub, scrubbing with non horsey and horsey shampoos, whitening shampoo, swarfega but they havent gone... So what to try now? Also his tail is looking rather yellow on the outside, so any hints? Please!! I know this has been done to death but I'm really stuck :(

I'm trying to watch Rupert Penry Jones and type at the same time!!! Have you tried the fizzing tablets that clean dentures? What are they called? I can't think sorry too busy dribbling at the TV. Put 6 in to a bucket of water and put tail in it, it gets rid of the horrible yellow stains a treat!

Ha Ha - my son used to use that excuse at PC camp - he managed to convince the DC that his grey mare was a skewbald! Elbow grease - lashings of fairy liquid, and a power hose and it will gleam! I have a friend who hunts a grey horse from the field - and it is always turned out gleaming - not a yellow strand in its tail to be seen!
 
No I havent tried the Lynn Russel stuff, I would but i dont have much time to go to a tack shop or order it!
I don't think i can use chalk, we're inspected quite thoroughly from what i've been told, so I think it would be spotted!
 
you can buy stable stain remover which really helps,but in terms of getting grays really clean - you need to wash him a lot in the run up to the show - 1 bath the night before won't do it. I also use Lyn Russells shampoo and it is good - and I also put loads of baby oil on my horses tail and mane after each wash as that makes a massive difference in helping muck slide off!
 
For the tail try dissolving a lot of persil non bio in a bucket of warm water then soak the tail in the bucket for as long as you can hold it !

Then rinse thoroughly !

We were recommended this method and it seems to work wonders !

1 bucket hot water
1 cube of reckitt's blue
one tea towel/sponge.

dissolve cube in water.

SCRUB.

I had seven GREYS to get ready for hunting last season, by myself.

This saved my life. Wash with Wahl Diamond White the day before if you have time/really really muddy, then do this in the morning and your grey will sparkle. I also use this as the last rinse when I was my greys!

I guarantee you shiny, very grey greys!
 
Biological concentrate arial, can put on neat for real stubborn stains and leave to soak, or can use in with the shampoo to just make sure you rinse well!!
We show very very messy highlands at big shows like royal windsor and this really works!!!!
Weve tried non bio as we thought it would be kinder to there skin but doesnt work aswell.
 
My washing routine for really sparkly greys :D

Use a dandy brush (body brush for sensitive bits!), dip it into a bucket of warm water, then squirt neat Diamond White shampoo on it... scrub like a loony, all the time refreshing the brush.

Rinse and repeat on any really stubborn bits.

Rinse properly.

Dissolve one cube of Reckitts Blue in a bucket of warm water, and sponge this all over the horse - dipping tail in the bucket etc. When you've sponged all over, and scrubbed it especially hard onto the minging stable stains they seem to want to hang on to, chuck the rest over their backs, and leave for a minute before sweat scraping.

When they're still damp COVER them in canter coat shine spray, brushing it in with a CLEAN body brush, and drench mane, tail and legs in canter detangler spray.

Brush mane out, brush tail out and plait it in one long plait, fold up, and bandage out of the way for an hour or so.

Remove bandage, and you have one INCREDIBLY grey horse. I get asked all the time how I get my horses so clean! :D
 
you have probably tried this but I really like the cowboy green stain remover on coat and Vanish stain remover on tail although I have still to get rid of the yellowing (which I understand is there forever once it goes yellow) Tail bags are a great invention!
 
Soda Crystals and PROPER scrubbing, you really cant beat it on stable stains!!:)

Tail - Bleach:eek: only on the hair though!
