Can anybody give any advice how to stop horse kicking out when doing anything with back legs?

Horse started doing this a while back, thought may be pain related. Has had hocks medicated 2 week ago and fingers crossed he is sound.

However as soon as even look at legs he threatens to kick out. Was ok with farrier last week and with vet when had lameness workup. However with me or anybody else trying to groom or even really go near back legs he tries to kick.

Fine with feet being picked out.

Have tried different brushes etc with no luck. Really need to get to bottom of it as can't ask anybody to look after him while he like this.

Any ideas please x

What about getting a big glove and stuffing it, then tie it on the end of a long thin broom handle. That way you could work with him everyday gently without you being at risk to a kick, over time you will find that you will be able to run your hand down his leg.

just what i was going to say lotty - if he has been in pain and messed with he will be tentive round his back legs - use a stuffed glove etc and work with him - quiet kind but firm. you will see a difference :) x
