Could anyone offer any advice for someone who is suffering with back pain. Went to the Oestopath on Friday to find out that my sacrum was blocked. He manipulated all the muscles and made it more loosier. I have put ice on frequentlyover the weekend. This morning my pelvis aches when I sit down for long periods of time. I have an office job but have kept getting up and working around. Have got booked in to see the Oestopath tomorrow but can anyone offer help. Have heard about pilates exercise? Any recommendations

i see a chiropractor every few weeks who keeps my back pain in check...have been doing so for 12 months now...also ice and put heat on it regularly and alternate the two...sorry can't really help but can sympathise- a bath could work?

hi
i have scoriosis of my lower spine and i suffer from really bad back pain and im not even ment to be riding but i cnt give it up but i found wearing a back brace helped and just doing simple exercises every night and everytime i ride heps and maybe a seatsaveer on your saddle to stop the concussion.

Also have scoliosis - if you have a curvature in your lower back you will probably have one higher up to compensate. Riding in my youth kept my muscles strong, I stopped for twenty years and lived with considerable debilitating pain. Started Pilates, took it seriously and still do ten minutes every day. I am now riding, competing, looking after horse DIY and back really good.

So I vote for Pilates, hope it works for you.

I would deep heat the affected areas, as this will stop the muscles tightening up.
I was told this by my Mctimmoney

i have a very large slipped disc and I go to pilates once a week and if the pain is bad in between (which is rarely is these days) then I do some of the stretches I've learnt in my class and it relieves the pain. I think pilates is wicked and I woudl recommend it to anyone. If you are near solihull I can recommend the class details. I was unable to walk at one stage when it was acute and I couldn't turn in bed due to the pain, coughing and sneezing were agony and as for riding - well out of the question totally. the one day I stood up at work and it 'went' and I had to get a taxi home (sobbing all the way) and lay on the floor on my front in the lounge in agony whilst dad rang the chiro for an emergency appointment. Now I can run, climb stairs two at a time, hack out for 3 hours, compete dressage, limited jumping (due to horse bouncing at fences which makes it ache) and drive. I am convinced its probably due to the fact it has settled (till I fall off again) and the stretching exercises and core muscle strength I have built up through pilates. x

Have you had a workstation assesment in work? You employers should make sure you have one (to make sure you're sitting properly, have the computer at the right distance etc) I had back pain so requested another assessment (had one before and everything was ok) I was given a lumbar support cushion and it makes a big difference. I still get the odd twinge but it nowhere near as bad. You may need a different chair, or a support of some kind or even something as simple as a footrest. A Chiropractor was also very helpful for me.
