Im dog sitting for my dad he has a 7 yr old un neutered male (I tried to get them off but he wouldn't) well both dogs have been for a groom today and now dads dog will not leave my yr old pup alone it's disgusting he keeps pinning him down and humping him even out walking I've got him on a lead now but he is still trying my dog can't get him off as he is lighter I've tried shouting no, pulling at his harness and as a last resort a gentle no smack but nothing is working any ideas I can't cope with this all night!!!!

HELP

Is your pup male or female? If male, the older dog is probably being quite dominant. If female, and un neutered I'd be careful in case she's coming to season! The pain with this behaviour is it's instinctive and could well be ingrained if he's always done it with other female dogs he's encountered.

If you walk both dogs in the park, perhaps let your one off the lead and keep the older dog on a flexi so he can't harass your pup.

At home, you could always keep the dog on a lead and keep your foot on the lead, so he doesn't have the opportunity to pester your pup. Bit of a pain but teaches the dog self control and to behave. When he is relaxed, let him off and if he starts harassing your pup, pop him back on the lead and get him to settle.

How long are you looking after the dog til? Just reread your post and noticed they've come back from the groomers. Perhaps your pup smells different so he feels he needs to reassert his authority?

It's not disgusting, its a natural instinct- albeit embarrassing for you. Keep them apart if it bothers you that much

Thankyou my pup is a neutered male!! (so no pups) its just my dog hates it but I can't stop him luckily he was ok in the eve then I split them at bed time much to the randi dogs disgust and this morning he hasn't tried it!

I was just shocked that however much I told him off he still did it

Did the groomer do anything to the anal glands of your dog? I've heard that the smell of anal glands can incite some dogs to mount others, for some bizarre reason!
