please help lameness

hi im anewbe here i have an horse chantella that is 16 hands and only 7 i brought her off horsemart in july and 1 week later she goes lame the vet has don all flexion tests etc and has referred me to have her nerve blocked and xrays done.
tuesday.
she is sound on the straight but on lunge and ridden she is lame on circles she is worse on left rain and lame on the right hind leg .
she is sort of hopping.
she has know heat swellings or lumps or bumps.
any ideas its so upsetting as she is very geniune.

i'm sorry for you but it's going to be a game of eleminating what could be wrong??
Can you go back to original owners to see if they can't enlighten you?
Did you have a vetting when you brought horse???
but also don't rule out a problem higher up in back or pelvis.

Hi gail4321 and welcome to the forum. Sorry - don't know what to suggest re lameness but hopping lame doesn't sound good. I guess that 7yrs old hopefully means not something like arthritis. I do hope your vet can get to the heart of the problem - do let us know how things go x

My new horse went dramitcally lame about a month after I bought him. After paying for a full vetting, you can imagine - I was not amussed.

Farrier was comming up a day or two after the initial onset - so had him to have a look in the first instance. Thankfully he had a bruised sole - and I could pinpoint exactly when he had done it.

Was anything of concern inidcated to you when you had the horse vetted? Have you done any particularly strenuous work which the horse may not have been ready for? Have you had his feet checked by your farrier?

Just initial thoughts.

if it is anything serious, you will have a case against the seller if your vet can prove that it was a previously existing condition, which the seller must have known about.
did you have a vetting? ditto, you'll have a case against the vet, i should think.

i really really hope it's pus in the foot though. that's one of the few things that can make them absolutely hopping so fast, for no apparent reason. it's very common this year too apparently, due to wet ground in the summer etc. not quite sure why that is though.

Why? If the horse was sound on the day of purchase, no pre-existing problem was brought to his attention, and nothing obvious was wrong with the horse, why on earth would the vet have a case to answer too??

I agree with AmyMay, you couldn't really have a case against the vet providing all the tests were carried out and the horse passed.
An abcess can come on quickly and cause hopping lameness.

well i was daft i did not have her vetted which i should have done ive been back to all owners and they swear she never had a problem.
the person i had her off said she would take her back if she does not come sound which is good but i dont want her going back if its something that can be put right.
ive had an farrier to her ive had the vet which has referred her for scan xrays and nerve blocks tuesday ive had back lady out which needed doing and ive had her teeth rasped.
im doing everything possible just waiting for tuesday to come around.
so fraustrating.

just a thought, if it was a five stage vetting and its only been a week or so then ask to have the blood that should have been taken tested for barbs/bute etc. The blood is taken and kept for this reason its not routenly tested if the horse passes its physical vetting. good luck

I am not a vet, but to be sounds suspect for suspensory - I have had 2 both the same symptoms as what you are describing.

Depends on the severity etc, my mare has just had an op on hers - there is an 80% chance will come back to where she was (SJ at 1.40m)
