Hi everyone,
So, I noticed that my pony had been rubbing quite alot, and after asking various people and my boss they all thought it was lice. So I got some louse powder and treated her, her rugs, brushes, stable etc as the powder directed. 2 tubs later and nothing seems to of happened, and if anything she is rubbing more.

Now I know that most people will now be thinking it is probably sweetitch, but it definatly isn't.

So I just wanted to know if anyone has any other methods for getting rid of lice, or any other diagnosis?

Thankyouu

Coopers Fly Repellent +
It comes in a nice bottle, around £30 +/-.
You wipe it on with sponge supplied & using plastic gloves supplied.
Enough in bottle to last you a long time - also v good for fly repellent.

Or otherwise Deosect.

Both products rated highly :)

Were all the horses on the yard treated with the products? The lice are quite easily passed from one horse to another, so it's no good treating only yours if he's in contact with others...

It's also a good idea to do the powder treatment two weeks or so after the initial treatment - to ensure there aren't any lice remaining or maybe eggs which hatched - yuk!!

Apart from the horses, tack and rugs - you would also have to disinfect your grooming equipment after every use - maybe with diluted Jeyes fluid.

How do you know it's not sweetitch? There are many things horses are allergic to, and louse powder, used properly, does work.

i used both on mine when she got lice, i bathed in deosect then piled on coopers, one treatment and the live never came back!!! expensive cobination but both products last ages!! def worth keeping in your tack box!

Don't know if there are chickens on your yard, they are a source of lice, our yard owner had chickens and did all the horses with a spot on liquid, not sure what it was called, we were the first to notice lice on our horses and it was like admitting we had nits when we told the other liveries, everyone checked their horses and dealt with it.

When one of mine got lice the vet said the active ingredient in the louse powder was not strong enough to have any effect. The injection the vet gave did not work either but the liquid I bathed her in did. I cannot remember what it was called now though.
