ideally;

around 14hh to 15.2ish.....
not going to kill me
colours/looks unimportant
age - 4-8ish
to do very local shows - jumping/dressage
dont mind puting in work - i love schooling!!!
nothing against tb's but would like to avoid if possible....(been there)....

preferably in cheshire but i have a car and can travel around the country but its travelling the horse back as i have no trailer/box that will add ££ onto the price.

preferably £1500or lower. they are out there as ive emailed the majority on horsemart.lol. however - any ive missed please link me?

also - if a horse is at £1800, given the current market and the fact that im known for going same day/cash take horse what would you offer?

thanks :D

2 years nope :) will consider most !

actually just loooking at a 2 year old coloured which is lovely but ive seen the same type at £500ish - buyers market isnt it :s

upping as i have found a lovely 4 year old cob to view well within my budget :)

lightly backed etc....

just need help with what questions to ask as its been a while..................

thanks :D

Well I would say my boy fits your criteria EXCEPT that he's only 1 year old!!!! hahaha, anyway with regard to questions to ask.....

How long have they owned the horse? Did they back him, what history do they have of him?

Is he vaccinated? Passported (this should have definately been done, if not and they have to apply for a new one, he'll need microchipping too) has he been wormed reguarly? Seen a farrier regularly? Has he had shoes on yet?

We have just finished our horse shopping and it is amazing what people won't tell you unless you specifically ask! Our list:

Good to - catch, clip, load & travel (wagon and trailer), shoe?

Does he/she - crib, windsuck, weave, spook easily, rear, buck, spin, bolt, hack alone & in company?

Jumping (stopping, spooking - esp fillers water trays etc, scope) Do ask about this even if you don't intend to do much as this can limit the market if you sell later most kids like jumping and smaller horses/ponies sell better if they are good at this.

Ring experience, been to shows recently with current owner? Stand on wagon/trailer at a show? If not been recently ask why to check the horse has not been. It could be just that the owner is not into getting out there but could also be because the horse has only been in light work due to fitness/injury or owner to scared to do much with it.

Does he/she have or have any history of - sarcoids, lameness (ever out of work & why), colic (any history of surgery), shivers or any other neurological condition, accidents (look at any scarring and ask how it happened as the scar could be the tip of the iceberg).

If possible track down previous owners/yards/people who know of the horse and talk to as many as you can. We always find out lots doing this and people have always been very happy to chat and VERY honest as there is nothing in it for them!

Generally with a younger horse (like what you are viewing first) there will be a lot of the above that can't be answered. However a younger horse does have the advantage that it (hopefully) will not have learned too many bad habits or become ingrained in a particular way of going.

thanks thts brill!!

she needs bringing back into work but im hoping to stable on a busy riding school so i can have plenty of lessons....

shes 14hh but 14.2 as i thought but cobby and im 5'7 but slim so shouldnt look stupid. but to be honest i really dont want a world beater - i just want to ride!!!!

another thing........ my anti horse mother (i still live athome at uni), really does not want me to buy another horse.... i have the time/money and experience (ive had 2) but as the last one cost so much money shes very put off.....

any suggestions how i can tactfully explain WHY now is a good time to buy???

my reasoning is after uni i wont have as much time i will be job hunting etc and while im t uni i just want to enjoy myself, i dont drink nor smoke :o im still a kid wanting to play ponies lol!!
