Please help- Passport Query

Ok, my friend part exchanged her PC pony for a WB showjumper from a dealer 6 months ago, alls well- she expressed concern about how her ponio was doing and wondered what he was up to..that was all.
Last week I started going back to my old yard socially, and saw the pony!! Friend came to check it was him, and I met the (lovely) new owners and told them a little history.
HOWEVER He came unpassported from a 2nd dealer! He has a new name and a new passport which is baffling as he a) had one and b) was BSJA reg. and has winnings.
Not wanting to stir, or possibly get info wrong, could someone just tell me if this is shoddy dealing, seeing as two very well known dealers seem to be involved and its a shame that pony has lost (but now gained) his history

Hmmm, it could be that the original passport was mislaid, but if that were the case, given that the pony was BSJA reg, it would have been easy enough to get a duplicate issued.
It is illegal to sell a horse without a passport, so no matter what the reason for the horse not having his original, it simply should not have been sold, and any dealer would certainly know that.
 
sadly some people are unscrupleous (sp!!)
They would have done this probably to lose the winnings so they could sell the pony with no restrictions of what classes it can do, I detest this behaviour personally.
Someone went to see my friends pony it has under £100 BSJA BUT has all it qualifying DCs for BN and New, they said that they wanted to reclock the pony so they could start from scratch! Whats the point of that!!!
 
Well between two dealers, surely passports are quite important? And the new owners had been told he was a recent import from ireland aswell ( he was an irish import, but years ago!) And they had been told the right age he was..hmm
 
That may be a possibilty, but its not an enormous amount of winnings to loose, and its been sold to a novice 16yr old, so she is already out of juniors, doubt she will be a BSJA-er too...
 
It's anybody's guess as to why the dealers 'lost' his passport, but it is still illegal to sell without one, or to get another one issued knowing that the horse has an existing one.

The new buyers would be perfectly within their rights to contact Trading Standards about this - in fact they should imho.

Only this weekend I have drafted a letter for someone who's bought a horse, only to find that the passport has been tampered with. They have bought a 16 year old horse (from a dealer), that's passported as an 8 year old.

This passport fiasco is absolutely ridiculous.

Prittstick It wouldn't have been done specifically for the person that bought it, in my expereice its just something people do so can start pony from scratch again or for a dealer to lose its old identity something that shouldn't happen now with the passport system but as dubble says fiasco!!
 
this happens more than you think. i used to go to sales in ireland. you would see people buy a pony with sjai points which is 1 point = £2.50. so 40 points puts you straight out of BN. they bring them home and re-clock them. i was always amazed though as they are all microchipped. you would think that if a vet did the 2nd passport they would pick that up.
 
trading standard for one and bsja for another (but that depends on if its going to cause problems for new owners that honestly bought it without knowing it had winnings)
and possibly defra or the police i'm not sure who you report someone to for selling without a passport
 
As HorseGroupie says; Trading Standards would be the first point of call.
They take this sort of thing very seriously, and would no doubt contact the BSJA anyway in the course of their investigations.

Do you know if the pony is micro-chipped?
 
Trading Standards need to be told about all irregularities regarding passports, not just the ones we think are serious. Hopefully in time they will get their finger out and prosecute/investigate ALL reports, then maybe all this dodgy dealing will stop.

If a horse doesnt have a correct passport....DONT BUY IT. Simple as.
 
Sorry QR, thank you for the advice, dubble, no Im not sure? Will check, I think BSJA will be left alone as the new kid has no plans for that. Ill let old and new owners know in a subtle way (if they are willing) to tell TS, as two well known dealers are involved.
Spaniel, the horse was bought with help of livery yard, the head girl is not even remotely bothered it had no passport, which pees me off as its a serious matter. If she was helpful then it would save dragging previous owners into it..
