A planning application to build a golf course in Edgware, north London, has just been lodged. It would be on a Green Belt site currently used to grow crops and keep horses. This is despite the fact that there are 22 golf courses within a five mile radius of the area. There is a livery yard there with 70+ horses who enjoy the rare treat of off road hacking and 24-hour turnout in London. If this goes ahead Bury Farm, which is a lovely oasis for horse loving city dwellers, will be ruined and its hard to imagine what will happen to all the horses, many of whom are retired having lived there all their adult lives. We are campaigning to save it and would be SO GRATEFUL if you'd spare 2 minutes to look at our petition and sign it if you agree: http://petitions.barnet.gov.uk/SaveBuryFarm/

Thank you for reading. xx

That is so nice of you - I'm going to be cheeky and say if you are on any other forums/facebook/twitter could you maybe spread the word. There are only around 70 of us but I'm really hoping the UK Horse Mafia will get behind us ....xx

Signed. I hope they save the farm. My horses live on pretty much the last farm within the bounds of my town, it's earmarked for development, too sad.

I have signed this, the land is owned it appears by oxford university so it maybe worth doing something to lobby them to get them to change their mind about leasing the land to someone who wants to build a golf course. The university won't like anything that might damage their reputation so you will need to look at convincing them that keeping the status quo is good for them, it may even be that the person they want to lease the land to is an ex student of the university or has some connection so they might be wanting to help them out by leasing the land to them.

If the plan for the golf course is rejected then oxford university may still decide they want to do something else with the land.
