We have been looking for a horsebox since before Christmas and are getting increasingly frustrated. Everything we have seen is vastly different from the description, and most photos seems to have been taken years prior and the box then left to rot. We have wasted hours and hours traveling to see boxes nothing like described.

If anyone comes across an advert from somebody they know to be genuine please can you give me a heads up. It can be old and basic, but I do not want to part with 5k for a complete sponge! We are not adverse to some repairs, but with most it would be easier and quicker to start a rebuild from scratch.

We have a Mercedes to view Saturday morning but nothing for the rest of the weekend to even look at. Basically run out of adverts. Anything in the Northwest is fab but we'll go on a trek for the a box someone already knows is pretty much as advertised...

What sort of box are you looking for? My friend has just bought one from over your way for about £5K that was a P reg 7.5T with just a bit to finish on the living but it was converted by a professional horsebox company. It doesn't have a luton though although it is cut through to cab. I thought a good price for the age although I personally prefer ones with lutons.

Tell me about it.
I have just bought one that wasnt advertised, I went to view one that was being sold by a horsebox builder, taken in part ex. It sold to someone as I stood there, who beat me to it by 10 mins. I gave my number and asked if anymore came up woud he let me know, which he did the following day!

I too ran out of ads, we travelled up to 200 miles and were always dissapointed when we got there.
I thought my budget would get me something half decent but I think some people are totally disillusioned at how much there wagons are worth. The good ones get snapped up, happened twice to me, the not so good or overpriced ones, I still see advertised now. I started looking in about August and bought one the end of December.

Maybe its worth ringing Horsebox builders and leaving your number.

August to December OMG! even worse than I thought. I would love to be able to get a P reg for that money, so far we have not seen anything above an E.

We just want a 7.5t partitioned for 3 (2 horses and 1 space), which has no major rot/leaks. It does have to be cut through as we are traveling a 4yr old and I'd like to be able to get back there easy. things like living, luton, resprays, partitions we are happy to get done/redone. I just need the basic shell of a wagon which is watertight and roadworthy.

I had not thought about leaving details with horsebox companies as they do not seem to advertise anything at the lower end. However I suppose they still may get offered a trade-in they need to dispose of ASAP, so worth a try.

I feel your pain as we too have been looking for one since November and cannot seem to find even many to look at.
Like you, the ones we have viewed are not quite as they say! One was advertised as immaculate and every single panel on it had either a massive scrape or you could see the bad GRP they had just sprayed over and I won't even go into what the horse area was like!

Another one looked the part but vibrated that much when you drove it I had a numb bum by the time I had travelled about 5 miles and was fine unless you actually wanted to select a gear!

Lets hope we find one soon!

Hmmm no success. It would have been good even with a few leaks in the roof to repair, but OH reckons will cost a fortune to plate at the end of the month. Daylight through the floor of the cab etc etc...

Getting close to persuading him to slightly extend the budget to the view the one suggested on here. Work in progress!

Hi, My friend has gone to see a new one today which if she buys she will have one to sell. Not sure what reg it is, know it is quite old, but it has been a really good box for her. Very reliable. It is a 7.5ton one but is a 2 horse one with side ramp. Has cut through, luton and toilet in. Only downside is that the ramp is quite steep but could easily have blocks put on to raise it off ground a bit, and it needs a respray. We are based in sheffield so if you think it sounds like something you'd be interested in then pm me and i will speak to her later and see if she will be selling it.

Something will come up, keep looking and dont rush into anything.
I was so fed up looking in the end. Same thing happened to me a couple of years ago, when I bought my first wagon. Everything that looked decent was the other end of the country, then when you have one there seems to be loads for sale.
Have a look on Horse Gossip. Its a forum which has a section for trailers and horseboxes for sale and theres quite a few. Also Horsehunter and dont dismiss Ebay.
Good luck

Ours is currently for sale if you might be interested-7.5 t partitioned for 2 horses or 3 ponies has a nice living with loo and shower. Has hot and cold running water and 2 tack lockers. Has heating fitted but have never used it so unsure if it works? It is a K reg Iveco.
Does need a bodywork touch up in places and the inside of the horse area needs repainting. It isn't in mint condition as has been well used but nice reliable box. PM me for more details if you want, were in Lancs.

For those of you who are looking for a horse box - my friend has one for sale. It takes 2 large horses with space at front and I think it could be altered to take 3 small naglets. If you don't mind travelling to Sussex (near Brighton) then please pm me as I do have further details on this horsebox.

Shame we are in the south as I am just about to advertise my J reg Daf 45. 3 horse with large mainly unfitted living. Large tack locker into living not horse area so loads of room for the Gees! Cut through to cab, fridge and cupboards. I have had it 6 years and its never let me down (except when i ran out of diesel once and i cant blame the lorry for that one). Had a couple of panels respayed where the husband, not me, scraped it along a wall so had it done on the insurance. I can send recent pictures if you like and you may be coming down this way? (Looking around £5500 by the way)

These are all such familiar stories! We have been looking since August for a safe lorry with a decent payload.
I really want forward facing and am in Sussex so if anyone knows of anything..... I would be prepared to travel, again!
Its got to be 6.5 or 7.5 tonne. Peper Harrow have just advertised one but its 14k and my budget is 10k.
I would even consider an old lorry for a chassis swap as its the body we are really struggling to find, side ramp with a small living. We went to see a Wren the other day that had been looked after so badly the ramp was hanging off!
Has anyone had any dealings with Horseboxseller in Silverstone?

Its worth emailing the dealers as you never know what they may have coming in, although it hasn't worked for us, yet!

My friends horse box was from Peper Harow and custom made her.
G reg / 1989 Renault Dodge luton area to sleep two; gas cooker and grill.
Mileage is around 50K with full service history and is fully taxed and MOT'd. She is looking for around £5K. I have pictures of it.

Hi Greysmeadow,

I have sent you my email via private message so you can send me the pics, we are near Haywards Heath so not far...! You never know...

Thanks.
