please help was grooming my shetland and this happened all his hair is falling out he isn’t neglected he wears a rain sheet i’m so confused and worried i can’t link a pic but his coat is falling out and there’s like dry scaly skin on the roots

Rainscald. Often caused by rugging natives that don't need it.

how is it caused by a rug?! i rug my shettys as they have broad backs and water pools, so they get rainscald easily. i don’t think it’s rainscald, there’s no blisters etc i would send a pic but it says the files to big

The rug keeps the skin warm and humid and that particular bug (which is around all the time but doesn't usually get into the hair follicle) likes warm humid conditions.

I have never seen blisters with rain scald, I have only seen exactly what you are describing. Not infrequently on rugged horses with full thick coats.

sorry meant scabs not blisters i’m all over the place lol
just researched and pretty sure it’s rainscald, will go to the vets
tomorrow and pick up some stuff to treat it
