I am very stressed at the moment! I am currently working 8-5 with an hours commute. Since the snow I cannot get my car to the farm so am having to also walk for 40 mins before and after work to sort horse, on top of commuting with no help at all.

Unfortunatly I found out today that my best friend is dying and won't last more than a day or two so I have been spending time after work at the hospital with her and cannot get to the farm u til 9pm, walking at that time is not great and so a friend has been chucking hay for him.
Tomorrow nobody can help ne out and I can't see how I can get to the farm before 9-10 pm. Someone please tell
Me it's not the end of the world not to muck him out till then as I feel so so guilty! He is currently stabled 24/7 during snow as nobody else turns out :(

I can't pay anyone or ask for favors as they all work full time too, and I have no horses friends or family! Will he be okay for the next few days with only the bare minimum :(

Rant away all you want. In times like you're going through at the moment you are allowed.
If I still lived in the UK and near you would gladly offer any help I could.
So sorry to hear about your friend and hope someone who reads this on here can help you out.

He will be fine for a few hours, just skip out when u get there.
I know it feels like your mental sometimes,.. here there everywhere.
But as long as hes got hay and water he will be fine!
Dont stress yourself... well try not too.

Good grief some people leave theirs for weeks and months!! A day or two WILL NOT hurt your horse and ignore what others say or think. Do what you have to do with hay/water etc, but mucking out can wait, horsey wont care, he may even thank you!

So sorry to hear all the bad times you're having atm. I think a common fault of us horsey owners is to fear that our little darlings might come to grief if we don't spoil them with our ridiculously high standards every single day. Sometimes you just have to be a bit rational and stand back and think, my horse is happy, healthy, warm and fed. One late muck out one day or even 3 days in a row will not harm him. It's not something to advocate on a long term basis, but if you are going through a lot like you are I think your horse would understand!

Big hugs from us and hope you feel better soon. Chin up. xx

as long as neddie has hay&water dont worry about mucking out!!!
see the steaming piles of poo as a good thing-they will keep his stable warm;)

hope things sort themselves out for you, get a good nights sleep and things will seem more acheivable tomorrow! xxxx

Completely agree with you there on this one! Your horse will be fine, as long as he is fed and watered!!! Could you not deep bed him for a couple of days if you've not got time? Take out poo and put a good layer of straw on top?? (if he is on straw of course!!) Just an idea.

So sorry to hear about your friend, sending you all my best at this sad time :(

As long as he has food & water he will be absolutely fine.

Poor u, been through a very similar thing myself recently & it's horrendous. I know we love our horses & usually they dominate our lives but sometimes they have to fit in around us. I've gotta say though, that when I did finally get to the yard at stupid o'clock after the hospital visit I was very glad to hear that familiar whinny & a good long cry into the neck of my faithful friend did me the world of good. :)

I'm so sorry about your best friend, I know how horrible you must be feeling right now. :(

As others have said, don't worry about the horse - he will be fine. Concentrate on your friend and yourself.

Thanks everyone.
Yo is completely unhorsey but is the one chucking hay over the door and filling water. Apart from that horse is pretty much left to his own devices until I eventually get there at 9pm, if at all!
Oh is also useless with horses and so I have nobody else to ask! Unfortunatley the yard is over a mile down an ungritted yard track, and within an ungritted village, so anyone would need a snow plough to get there! Walking is the only option for me!

I'm sorry about the difficult time you are having.
Many people deep litter and their horses are absolutely fine. Yours will be perfectly alright.
So long as he has enough hay and water, he does not even need to be skipped out. If you feel the need to do anything, just throw some more bedding in.
Could your OH not walk with you, so that at least you have some company on the walk?
