Hi i have a 16.1 7year old irish x tb eventer. I've had him since he was 4 and he's the absouloute love of my life but unfortunately is a bit tricky. Natrually hes a stressfull horse e.g rearing on the lorry.. always looking out his stable door like a gun has gone off & gets stressed in warm ups (fly bucking etc..) So its to no surpise to me that he has developed an stomach ulcer.
We think he has one through our iradologist(she can see things through the eyes) and said he had a small low grade stomach ulcer. This is after hes just had the whole winter off due to a virius which had left him with slight liver and kidney damage. So he's been on herbs & things to keep the virius away and his liver n kidneys good. They seem to be all ok now but i took him to a competiton today and he just had classic symptons of stomach ulcer like very angry when we put the girth on, if my leg comes on he kicks out with his ears back like hes in pain, for a while he wouldnt eat his hay but now we've got nicer hay he will actually eat it!
Anyway sorry for ranting but i was hoping someone could advise me on what to do for stomach ulcers, ive been researching them n have come up with this plan so i before i go aheead i would just like to no that im doing the right thing!
Plan:
Put him on gastroguard for 3days at full dose to start to cure it(i heard most horses show signs of wellbeing after 3days) then a gastroguard everytime after he competes? would this be effective or a waste of money?
Horse mirror in horsebox to eliminate stress.
Scoop of chalf 30mins before being ridden to line stomach.
Global herbs acid-X
Thinking of changing his usual dengie chaff to alfafa?
And i cant decide between these supplements so if anyone has used them before or has any recommendations please tell me! - Biotal equine gold, equine america ulcer guard pellets, smartgut, neighlox, equijewel(saracen) and coligone.
I really really love my horse & just want whats best for him so please help me if you have any info on the matter, thank you
This is my baby boyy! x
