I have lice in my horsebox :eek::eek::eek::eek:
I found them about 2 wks after transporting a friends horse to a show, they were all over where the hay was on the shelf and i found some on the floor. Ive totally gutted the whole thing, swept it out and disinfected it...but the little buggers are still there. There mainly on a carpeted area in the grooms bit. The tiny ones are cream....the adults are a light brown:eek:. What can i use to kill them???? would coopers fly repellent plus work if i sprayed the carpeted bit with it.....or would it not work because its not on an animal?? please if anyone has any suggestions, fire away.

Louse powder?

Flea shampoo?

Good Luck

Gosh, I don't envy your situation. Haven't any idea what to do - would one of those house hold flea/bug sprays work? What has your friend said? Good luck!

It sounds as if they could be mites from the hay? You can get household flea sprays such as Indorex that would do the job I would think.

Yes, Coopers Louse Powder is banned for use on livestock but I think it is still OK for buildings and other structures (so horse boxes).

I had lice on the ponies at one time and asked the vet about Coopers because I had a tin. He didn't say a word, just winked. Interpret that as you wish!;)

Thankyou to everyone for the replies.....i shall investigate your suggestions. Id rather deal with a pack of angry lions then lice *shivers*

How about re-carpetting?

I think your best option is one of those insecticidal shampoos for headlice that you can get from a chemists (get the real 'chemical' insecticidal one rather than the 'green' one for parents that don't like 'real' chemicals in their kids hair), I doubt it would damage the carpet, but it should take out most lice and you could soak the carpet with it and leave it in for some time.

Battle's louse powder usually works too.

Got me itching now!!!!!!! : (

Good luck! I'm with you in the pack of angry lions rather than small creepies, took me 3 months to de-flea our rescue cat : ( xxx

Go to local Robert Dyas & get the Rentokill aerosol of Insectrol, usualy works well.
Otherwise use the Coopers Fly+ as thats good on furnishings as well as horses (do NOT dilute it)
Or as others have mentioned, use Deosect.

Good luck - and dont forget to repeat the process to ensure the hatchlings also get snuffed out too :)
