Hello.

Please please please read this and sign it!

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/traveltax/

It is being taken offline at midnight tonight (tuesday). So we need to have as many signitures on it as possible. this will affect many people,

and if it comes into force, it will make the gap between the rich and poor, even greater! And the poor will get poorer, it will effect peoples jobs, including mine! i do alot of miles as a freelance groom and instructor, and i will not be able to continue the job if this comes into force, along with other people in the country.

thanks for read. and please sign.

I agree that something has to be done and it is interesting to note (as seen on the News today) that many people would be in favour if the money was used to improve roads and public transport. My concern with this is if certain quieter roads are 'cheaper' to drive on this will just shift traffic into more rural areas and onto roads that simply aren't designed for a high volume of traffic. I also understand that this is an expensive scheme and so doubt that any of the money raised will go into improving roads or more importanly public transport, but will cover the debt from introducing it.

You cannot cut congestion on roads without first providing an alternative method of getting freight and people around the country. Thanks to various cuts in railways, both lines and services, most freight is moved round the country via road. Thanks to the dire provision of public transport, and the exhorbitant cost of using it, most people travel via road. Forcing people to drive on minor roads to save money is a cynical exercise in further exploiting motorists. The government has just spent £57m bypassing our village, so what was a main road is now a quiet road. That won't last, and we will be faced with all the problems we had before. I still maintain that if congestion gets bad enough people will sort out their own transport matters.

Any public transport that may exist between where I live and where I work would take me all day just to get there, so no use to me - also it is unlikely that it would run at many of the times I would need it.
If roads are "priced" it would probably cost me most of my earnings just to get to and from work! So I wouldn't be able to afford to go to work anyway.
And that doesn't count the other times I need to use my car - to which the above equally applies. Including visiting my family, especially my 90-year-old mother.

I would be in favour if it replaced other forms of road tax, fuel tax etc however I am sure this is very unlikely as they just want more money. Fortunately all my driving is at off peak times on rural roads (no public transport here!)
